While the green construction industry has been growing exponentially, specific technology challenges continue to arise, which are stalling the increase in building efficiency needed to make a cultural shift in the United States and around the world.

While standardization of architectural design for green construction can have a positive influence on some aspects of the process (such as mass production to bring costs low and LEED certification to guarantee sustainable design), it can also make buildings more difficult to maintain.
