The Christmas lights have been one of greatest inventions of the Yuletide season. They brighten up the Christmas trees, as decorations indoors and outdoors with string lights. Here are interesting facts, legends, and perhaps, a bit of myth about the Christmas lights.
Christmas Trees Lit by Candles
One of the most popular legends or myths about the Christmas tree was that it was illuminated sometime in the mid-1500s during the time of period of the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther, the great Reformation leader was supposed to have placed candles on a tree to capture the look of the night sky in Bethlehem where the Jesus the Christ child was born.
It was only until few more hundred years later that there was a documented evidence that candles were used to light up the old Tannenbaum, a German word for fir tree, or refers to Christmas tree. However, Christmas traditions as known in the modern generation owes much of its origins to the 19th-century Victorian Christmas tree introduced in Britain by Prince Albert.
