Marketing 101 Syllabus

In the wake of radical climate change in the economy over the past two years, some of us, companies and individuals, find ourselves adrift on financial thin ice. Strategies for success have given way to struggles for survival. It's a reality that, when companies cut costs, marketing and communications budgets are often the first to go. That has left a lot of marcom professionals looking for a job. And, as good as they are at building other brands, many go shoeless when it comes to branding and marketing themselves.

Guilty as charged, I'm going back to the basics to figure this one out.

Think like a brand

If you can Google yourself and get results, you're already a brand. And with Twitter, Facebook, and all the other social marketing tools available, it's easy to stay visible. Or, get lost in the shuffle. If you're one of a hundred-million-plus brands out there, how can you stand out? What makes your brand unique? If you can't answer that, maybe it's time to go back to Marketing 101 and rebrand.
